The project will require the excavation of a diversion channel to redirect the Blue River around the grade control structure location, followed by excavation for the structure itself. Construction of the initial portion of the structure will entail the preparation of the foundation materials, placement of forms and reinforcement, and placement of mass concrete to create the stilling basin, headwalls, training walls and other components of the structure. Thicknesses of some of the slabs are approximately 7 feet, and the height of some of the walls approaches 50 feet. Excavation of the new channel alignment will include approximately 1,100 feet of channel at a top of bank width of 320 feet and average depths of 25 feet. Upon completion o f the initial portion of the structure, the river will be redirected through the structure and the remaining portion of the structure completed. |
