| Project Description: |
Scope of work includes widening the existing canal for a distance of approximately 2,000 feet and constructing a berm along the widened portion of the canal for approximately 1, 000 feet. It is currently estimated that 136,000 cubic yards of material, including peat, silt, sand and rock, is to be removed for the canal widening. Suitable material taken from the canal widening will be utilized for berm construction. Volume of mater ial required for the berm is currently estimated at approximately 15,000 cubic yards of material. The remaining 121,000 cubic yards of material resulting from canal widening will be disposed of at designated upland disposal areas. Additional work under th is contract will include the modification of culvert S-377, which is an existing 2 barrel 48-inch corrugated metal pipe structure. The modification will consist of adding a culvert riser and remotely operated water control gate to each pipe. A platform a nd access walkway will also be included. Work will require a high level of construction management and building skills as they relate to working in an environmentally sensitive environment. The Contractor will need substantial resources to react to varyin g requirements during the project. Reliable equipment and a competent workforce are required to successfully accomplish the work. The contractor should be highly experienced in operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Additionally, the cont ractor should be highly experienced with excavation and/or dredging and dewatering dredged material. Difficulties that might be encountered during performance of contract requirements include, but are not limited to, restricted site access, construction se quencing, working in wet conditions, meeting permit requirements for water quality and protection of equipment and personnel during rapidly changing water surface elevations. |
