Water heater problems
Hi,
My pilot light on my water heater went out and my co-worker told me that I might need to change out the thermocouple. So I did that today. Disconnected all the stuff, pulled it out and cleaned it. Put it back. The pilot light burns when I light it, but still goes out in between releasing the red button and turning the dial to ON. One thing I noticed when I pulled the burner and all out is that the gas tube looks like it has a " lip " so to speak - does the tip of the thermocouple go into this sort of lip or does it just sit next to it ( like I have it right now ). Any help would be appreciated, I work and my kids have to go to school and we like hot showers.... loll. What next???

Re: Water heater problems
The thermocouple needs to be in the flame 1/4" to 1/2". The pilot flame should be blue and engulfing the thermocouple. If all that i explained is correct then the magnetic pilot safety is bad in the thermostat. The thermostat in this case will need replacing.
