Tecumseh engine --= no spark
This is on an old Ariens snow blower. I think I may have to pull the flywheel to get to the points for this job: is it a long deal, do I need a wheel puller? Anyone know of an online diagram?

Yup. got to pull flywheel, pretty strait forward job. You will probably have to pull the fuel tank to get the shroud off. I just pull it and leave hooked up too carb, setting it somewhere out of the way. Then remove the shroud to get to the flywheel. there are a couple of ways to pull the flywheel. One way is to loosen the nut and turn it out even with the end of the crank, then use a prybar or large screwdriver to put tension on the flywheel while tapping the nut with a lead or brass hammer. The other way is use the special tool that screws on the shaft and hit that with the hammer. Once the flywheel is removed, you have access to the points, which are located inside an odd shaped box. Take off the cover and change both the points and condenser. set the points to the right spec and reassemble every thing in reverse order. Caution, do not loosed the bolts that hold the box on or you will mess up ignition timing.YOU might want to be carefull also with the flywheel, it has the magnets for the ignition inside it and if you drop it, you might knock one or more of them loose.

check to make sure there is good connection between the mag and the posts it sits on. also check for rust between the platesof the coil.

Re: Tecumseh engine --= no spark
I'm also trying to get a spark on my Tecumseh H60. I am ready to replace the points and the condenser, but it looks like the points are attached to a wire terminal via a strip of metal. I can't find any way to remove the terminal or the metal strip from the points. Has anyone seen this also?
I inherited an old Ariens snowblower that wasn't working. i tracked the problem to a broken valve spring cap, which I replaced. I cleaned up the whole engine including cleaning and resetting the points, put it back together, and tried to start it but no spark. I'm ready to replace the points if I can figure out how to remove them with this metal strip.

Thanks

Tecumseh points are on a 2 piece stamped steel hinge mechanism. They don't remove from the terminal, that's a part of them. Get the new pieces (the replacement points and cond. ) and you'll see.

There is one screw and one nut holding the points in. The screw is on one half of the hinge mechanism the points live on. The bolt is the wiring terminal bolt. remove both of those, remove the condenser bolt, and all will pull straight out, in the direction of the shaft.

Unless someone has jury rigged something....
