Interior doors hit
Help please ! I'm acting as GC on building my own house & what a headache, but I can see the light of day now. The painter just finished painting all interior yesterday. He removed all of the interior doors and moved them to the basement to paint and then reinstalled. Now 5 of the doors do not close properly at all, not even close. They are way too out of whack to be just the thickness of the paint causing problems and the painter says he numbered all the doors and hinges so he would put them all back in the correct places. What could be the sudden problem? Seems to me that either he warped the doors during painting or he somehow mixed up doors to the correct frames. Any other ideas? How to fix? Can they be adjusted or should I try swapping some to see if they work? Is this my problem or the painters? ( I still owe him $) I had checked all of the doors before paying the trim guy, so I know they were all ok before painting.
What to do ?

Tell me more about that sentence.

The painter did his work and deserves to get paid.

I think the doors are probably mixed up.

Re: Interior doors hit
I had no idea how much was involved in the design, planning, and construction of a house even though I thought I had read plenty and talked to a lot of people before starting. It has been a mental struggle trying to GC a house and perform at a full time job as well. I will save approx. $25k on a $150K house and I'm sure it will be worth it when I'm finished and looking back, but it ain't fun while it's happening.

Also, you don't think there is any responsibility for the painter to put the doors back correctly? I will, of course pay for the work he has done, but if it is not as simple as mixed up doors, and costs more $ to fix, shouldn't he be at least partially responsible for this?

It is normal for the painter to remove the doors, paint them, then replace them... Normally, the painter will number the hinge as well as the door to ensure that they put the doors back in the correct locations...

At any rate, I believe that you will have a difficult time proving that the painter is responsible for the ill fitting doors. I am glad to hear that you are going to pay him... Legally, if you did not pay him then he could place a lien on the house making it difficult for you to close on the perm. loan..

Try to swap a few doors.. Or just pay the trim guy to adjust them again at lockout..
