I am building a 14x28 workshop w/ attic trusses that have a 2x6 bottom chord 2' OC. I just opened a bag of R21 unfaced fig batts that are 93" long. I was told to stuff them from underneath and friction would hold them up. Then come back and staple the visqueen underneath.
Well, the bat went up just fine, but it came down 20 seconds later. So unless I hear otherwise, I'll staple the 4mil vapor barrier first, and then drop in the insulation from the attic. More ladder work, but should get it done.
I'll put up sheetrock later, so I think the visqueen should provide enough support, stapling what, every 6"?
I also need to locate my attic access now. Was thinking of a drop-down stair 4' from the front directly in the middle? I have the ground floor door right there too, so that area should never be blocked. It's 9' 6" from concrete to attic floor at this location.
I doubt I'd need the access any wider than the 2' truss spacing, which would avoid cutting a bottom chord.
