Bearing wall bowed by rafters
I'm in the middle of building my house. Just finished decking and tar paper when i noticed that the front wall was pushed out almost an 1 1/4" at the top. The rafters sitting on this wall are 22' on 16" centers and the room is an open cathedral. What i need to do is cut about 6 or so rafters loose of the top plate to straighten the wall.

My question is can i just cut the rafters loose and straighten the wall or do i need to figure a way to brace the rafters so it doesn’t affect the roof?

Re: Bearing wall bowed by rafters
If the rafters pushed your walls out before the collar ties were put in than that means your ridge HAS to be sagging. The right way to fix the job is to prop up the ridge temporary with 2x4's and a jack take the collar ties out and jack the ridge back up level and that will pull your wall in.

If you don't want to fix it the right way and leave your ridge sagging then you prop your ridge up and cut all the nail out of the birdsmouth and pull the wall into a line and get it straight. Then you'll have to go back and cut every one of your rafter tails to get a straight fascia.
